In 2024, UWM police have investigated about one car theft per month, a trend they're working to change. They partnered with Hyundai to get the word out about an anti-theft car clinic. "Our technicians, as the chief said, are going to be on-site to provide that important safety software upgrade or a mechanical upgrade in 30 minutes or less. Importantly, there is no appointment needed whatsoever for this," Hyundai Vice President Dave Vande Linde said. Older models that use a physical key need the software update to be less susceptible to theft. The newer models use key fobs and are better protected.
